Harare - Zimbabwean police razed shacks and stalls in the a township outside Harare on Tuesday as they forged ahead with a demolitions campaign that has left hundreds of thousands homeless and claimed the lives of at least five people.
"There is destruction like I have never seen in my life," Emmanuel Chiroto, a resident of Hatcliffe township northeast of the capital, said by telephone.
"Not even a single structure has been left in the home industries (small businesses) and all the backyard houses are gone. Yet we thought this operation was over and we were now in the reconstruction phase."
Chief police spokesperson Wayne Bvudzijena said: "The operation is still going on until the people in all the areas have complied."

African Union leaders meeting in summit in Libya concluded their deliberations Tuesday with a call for the United Nations to create two permanent African seats on the Security Council – but made no formal reference to the crisis in Zimbabwe despite intense pressure from Western countries to take it up.....
I see NOOOTHIINNG....
From Harare, the state-controlled Herald newspaper said Mr. Mugabe had “marathon bilateral talks” with U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and South African President Thabo Mbeki, during which, the Herald reported, Mr. Annan “requested Zimbabwe’s support for his proposed U.N. reforms.”....
Ah, we are talking about it
The Herald said it was agreed among the three leaders that human rights interventions should be conducted through the U.N. and not by individual countries – this an apparent reference to Britain and the United States, which have condemned Harare for leaving hundreds of thousands of its citizens homeless.
Translation: We will talk about it and talk about it...but we are on record saying that no one should interfere (that means you evil bush, and you, evil Blair, and hint hint YOU South Africa)
